Arthur Dove was a modernist artist who got his start in the early 1900s. Inspired by movements such as Cubism, Futurism, and Orphism, he developed an abstract style of painting that had a huge impact on the art world. His work was exhibited widely after its debut at the 1913 Armory Show in New York City. He is credited with inventing what is now known as “Abstract Impressionism.”
