Charles Antoine Lemaire was a French artist, botanist, and engraver. He was born in 1765 to Jean Baptiste Lemaire and Marie Anne Antoinette. He published papers on cacti and succulents.
Lemaire is credited with being the first person to establish the typology of cacti and succulents that is still in use today. He also sketched his findings, which are some of the earliest known botanical illustrations. Lemaire is credited with naming about 240 plant species, most of them succulents.
