Oscar-Claude Monet (1840–1926) Monet was a famous French Impressionist painter. He is best known for his paintings of water lilies, haystacks, and bridges on the Seine. Monet discovered in later life that he had cataracts, which caused him much grief because it prevented him from painting his favorite subjects. This didn’t stop him though! He started using colored pastels to paint with instead of oils and this became a new style adopted by many other artists.
