Edward Penfield is an American illustrator, best known for his poster artwork. He was born in the year 1884 and often unofficially referred to as the father of modern poster art. He began pursuing illustration work during his time at the Pratt Institute School of Art in 1914. One of his most recognizable pieces is a World War I propaganda poster titled “The Gas!,” which he created with friends who also worked on it.
