In 1886, de Feure was admitted to the Netherlands Rijkscademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam though he left shortly after. He would never take up formal artistic studies again, opting to forge his own independent path. He was influenced by Jules Chéret in posters for the café concert and is thought to have never been his pupil.

De Feure showed his work in the Exposition Universelle de Paris exhibition. He created furniture, designed theater sets for Le Chat Noir and posters. He was given awards for his contributions to decorative arts by having been nominated Chevalier de la Légion d\’honneur in 1901.
