Gustav Klimt is widely regarded as being a founder of the Vienna, or Secessionist, art movement. He was a co-founder and president of Wiener Akademie in 1898 and, as a professor of painting from 1891 to 1918 at the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts, he exerted considerable influence. His works are characterized by an ornate gold style that would come to be known as his “Golden Style.”
